Many MBA programs teach what to do in business, but how many teach what not to do? Ensure that your MBA business management courses are addressing some of the misinformation that is out there about entrepreneurialism and helping students to see the reality behind today’s business strategies. Some of the myths that every business school or program should address include the following.
- “Moving a store will hurt a business.” This is not necessarily so. There are ways to relocate that can improve the bottom line, as long as you are moving into a better location. Plan your relocation well and it will become a very profitable decision.
- “The Government Offers Free Money for Your Business.” We have all seen the TV commercials stating that million of grants go unclaimed each year. Before getting your heart set on such an outcome, carefully investigate those grants to see if your business qualifies—usually only non-profits and education-oriented endeavors do.
- “The customer is always right.” Thank goodness, that is just not true. Sometimes the customer is either making an honest mistake or trying to cheat you. Always be friendly, but don’t be chump. Customers are people too.
