Tips for Business Executives from the Cover Letter to the Interview

business executives from Tips for Business Executives from the Cover Letter to the InterviewCover letters, resumes, and interviews are the basic building blocks of any hiring situation. Mastering these can seem like a full time job in and of itself, but it must be done if you want to land that dream job. Remember that recruiters and hiring managers have a stack about a foot high on their desks at all times, and that stack is nothing but cover letters and resumes from applicants. How do you make yourself stand out on paper in order to get that interview? Here are five excellent tips to put you over the top:

  • Don’t use a template cover letter! Each cover letter should be unique and personalized to that individual company. It should show that you know the company’s goals and vision and that you are in line with those.
  • Be brief! Never run over one page with your cover letter, and do use bullet points to draw attention to key ideas. Recruiters just don’t have time to read your whole life story!
  • use the initial paragraph wisely: in the first paragraph, you must express what position you are interested in, and where you saw the advertisement, if any. Immediately refer to any work or research you have done in the field.
  • Zoom in on your career! Paragraph two should show very strong reasons why your experience makes you the perfect candidate for the job.
  • Sum it up. In the last paragraph, express an interest in discussing the position further in an interview and request salary or other information briefly. You don’t want to drag the letter on. Conclude it quickly and efficiently.
