With the advent of the new year, it is tax time, and things might be more complicated for you this year than ever before. So try to keep it simple but honest and do our taxes in the most accurate manner possible. The IRS wants to help you with the trials and tribulations that can accompany tax time for any new business owner, so it has put out a list of 7 tips to help you. Let’s take a look:
- Know whether you wish to be a sole proprietorship, partnership, LLC, or corporation.
- What type of business do you have? This will determine whether you pay income tax, self-employment tax, employment tax, or excise tax.
- Every business needs an employer ID number. If you simply work for yourself, however, you can use your social security number.
- Choose a reliable record-keeping system and stick with it!
- Know if you will file using the calendar year or the fiscal year.
- Make sure your accounting method is consistent!
