• manage, mitigate or minimise risk,

• and identify new organisational opportunities.

Therefore, a CSR strategy describes an organisation’s vision – its key aims objectives and measurable indicators of success. It also defines an organisation’s governance structure and the management systems that are in place. Many organisations produce an annual report to inform their stakeholders of their CSR performance and report is increasingly being utilised as a marketing tool as well as an organisational driver.

 New Ethics: Internet Marketer Need CredibilityInternet marketers, when making a list of the things they think they need in order to successfully run an Internet business usually include the following:

1. A Web Site

2. Ads

3. Articles

4. Money For Promotion

5. A Product

6. An E-Zine

And the list goes on and on. But 95% of them forget one thing, and it’s probably the one most important thing you need to have if you’re going to succeed.

It’s called credibility.

Instead of trying to define what that is, I’m going to give you a very simple example of how not having it will shoot down any chance you have of being successful.

You’ve just signed up with this great new program. It’s the hottest thing since sliced bread. You’ve got your ads out all over the place. Finally, somebody emails you or even calls you on the phone if you’ve provided them with a number, and they ask you about this wonderful program. And you start telling them all about it. You can’t rave about it enough. And then comes the question that makes it all meaningless.

“How much money have YOU made with this program?”

Do you see where this is going?

Sure, you can lie. But trust me, that lie will come back to haunt you in more ways than you can imagine. Or, you can tell the truth.

What do you think is going to happen when you tell this person that you haven’t made a DIME?

Without credibility you are NOWHERE.

So, the $64,000 question is, how do you get credibility? How do you show people that you ARE a successful person online when you haven’t made a buck?

The answer is simple, but you’re not going to like it.

You’re going to have to go out and make a buck.

If this sounds like a catch-22, it’s not. There are ways out there to make money without having to promote a product or recruit. You just have to find them. My book has a number of ways to get that credibility so that you can show people that you HAVE made money online.

Fortunately, my Honest Income Program ebook, which you can find in my signature, WILL give you ways where you can get credibility and be able to easily promote your business with some degree of success.

The point is, there ARE ways to make money online even if you don’t get my book. Just do a search engine search for online jobs or something like that. Some jobs pay okay, some not so great. You’re not going to find anything that’s knock ‘em out of the ball park.

But, before you can go out hawking your “biz-of-the-week” you will have needed to earn at least a few hundred to a few thousand dollars before you’re going to have ANY chance to get people to believe you.

If you think I am kidding, try getting people to sign up to your program when you haven’t made a cent online. You may get lucky in one out of a thousand responses, but by the time you get your next sign up, the guy you just recruited will be gone because he too didn’t make a cent and got fed up.

I hope everyone will take the issue of credibility seriously. I had no success online at all until I got it.

Trust me, it is the number ONE thing we all need.

4 Tips for Industry Switching

Hedge Fund Jobs Hedge Fund Jobs: 4 Tips for Industry SwitchingEvery day I get resumes from industry switchers, folks who’ve built a career in mortgage lending, medical sales, engineering, etc… and want to move into the hedge fund world for the big money. It’s a hard time to try the switch because the financial sector has been hit hard: hedge funds are running leaner and meaner. It’s also a challenging time because the poor economy, particularly the implosion of the mortgage industry, has flooded the hedge fund world with thousands of applicants vying desperately for any chance to make big money again. But we don’t always get to choose our timing! So here are 4 tips to help you MAXIMIZE your chances of making a successful industry switch:

  1. Back to school. One established path for industry switchers is the full-time MBA programs at top universities. Every year, folks enter Harvard, Wharton, Stanford, and other top schools with a game plan to hop from some other industry into financial services upon graduation. And many of them are successful at switching. This path includes taking the Summer between years to do an internship at a financial services firm. It also includes taking a pay cut, at least at first. Despite these sacrifices, the path can work. If this option would fit into your life, it’s something worth considering. Keep in mind that only top 20-ish schools make the cut. Generally speaking, hedge funds and investment banks focus their MBA recruitment energy at the top schools.
  2. Industry designations. The Hedge Fund Group (HFG) and many others offer hedge fund and investment related certifications and designations. These show that you’ve learned the terminology and are serious. For someone making a switch, those two things can really set you apart! Keep in mind that these tools will not allow you to walk into a management job or a senior analyst role unless you’re an amazing stud (or studlet) from an industry with very transferrable skills (e.g. sometimes pedigreed and successful statisticians, mathematicians, engineers, or physicists can walk into high-level analyst or even PM jobs). Nevertheless, if you’re trying to break into the industry, designations and certifications can be ice-breakers.
  3. Network, network, network. If you want to switch into the industry, you’re not going to get in by sending your resume to headhunters. Firms hire headhunters to fill specific roles and when they’re paying recruitment fees they expect industry-insiders with know-how, track record, and CONTACTS. Firms do not hire headhunters to supply them with random resumes of people from random industries with no industry contacts. You’re also not going to get a shot by posting your resume on an online job database or job board, even a financial services or hedge fund oriented site. Again, firms only go to these sources to fill a very specific need and they are looking for people with experience, track record, and industry contacts. Does this mean you’re wasting your time? Heck no! But your path to success is not posting or emailing your resume. If you’re going to industry switch, you need to get a foot in the door with someone you know. This means networking, lunches, trade shows, getting to know people and then expanding your web of contacts. People in all industries hire friends and acquaintances from outside of their industry – knowing that they can ramp them up to speed. It’s the same thing in the hedge fund world. Breaking in through friends and acquaintances is pretty easy. Breaking in by emailing your resume to headhunters and posting it online is a waste-o-time.
  4. Commission-only capital raising. If you’re willing to dial-for-dollars on a commission-only basis until you prove yourself, there are openings for you everywhere. Just directly apply to firms and you’ll find that a significant percentage will be willing to talk. Just make sure you look and sound sharp. Even commission-only, you’re still representing the firm.

Remember the purpose of your off-line press release is not to get the press release published, what you want is for the reporter to call you to interview you and you both can put together a nice story. This is very effective to get free leads for your MLM program or any of your websites that you want to drive traffic to.

Using press releases, remember that you’re trying to get people curious. Give them an interesting story to read. You don’t want to write it like an article, you want it to be newsworthy and introduce your topic or your niche.

For online press releases, write it from a third person perspective. You want to sound like you are reviewing someone else’s website or service. Include data and facts, dates and locations, and if you can add some type of call to action to send them somewhere. It will work a lot better.

Network marketing is all about getting your webpage visited by targeted visitors. It’s basic marketing, and you have to do it on a consistent basis in order to have effective results.

Press releases are very powerful and can get you a lot of attention fast. They always have a chance of being picked up and spread across a ton of newspapers around the world. Keep writing them and sending them out.

Here is the result of a recent interview I completed with the Financial Times regarding the Hedge Fund Group (HFG) and Certified Hedge Fund Professional (CHP) Designation, a new financial certification. Thanks to Fintag for the friendly (overly friendly) plug over on his blog here.

Financial Certification Financial Certification“Students can receive qualifications for almost anything, be it a “maple syrup” course at New York’s Alfred University or “cyberfeminism” at Cornell. Basic economics teaches that so long as there is demand and resources, supply will shortly follow.

Richard Wilson, founder of the Hedge Fund Group (HFG), a professional networking organisation, witnessed a demand for a programme dedicated to the study of hedge funds. This discovery led to the Certified Hedge Fund Professional (CHP) Designate initiative. Mr Wilson previously worked for a currency and commodity hedge fund and a fund of funds in South Africa before joining a hedge fund marketing firm.

The charter he has helped create is a programme designed to prepare students for life in a hedge fund. “It will also save two-thirds of training on the job and enable them to walk right in and know what is going on,” says Mr Wilson.

The CHFA project, launched in mid-July, is designed to be similar, but not a copy of others…. An online training forum provides career advice, CV checks, and access to a directory of managing directors and recruiters for students. Students gain admission to the Hedge Fund Group (HFG) and its 9,000 members.

The charter received roughly 900 applications for the first year, but intake was limited to 100…. “The Hedge Fund Group (HFG) team has been fabulous. They answer every question quickly, accurately and professionally. It’s this stuff that, quite simply, builds credibility,” says, Sameer Vishwanathan, a new student of the CHP Designation Program.”

A well written press release will bring potential sales to your product line of soy candles in several ways. By making your candles known through a press release, you expose your company to the eyes of potential buyers and the media at the same time. When you have decided on a topic of interest for your press release and have a list of the keywords that you want to use to optimize the information, remembering these three tips will make the difference between a successful press release and just another press release:

1-Make a List, Check it Twice: A press release is formatted with specific information in expected places. If your press release lacks the needed contact information or a dazzling headline (or if you headline is too long!), then you may loose readers due to ineffectual presentation. A quick internet search can give you some very reliable press release templates, so do not sell your efforts to gain exposure for your soy candle line short by using an improper format.

2-SEO to Go: When you write your copy for your press release, be sure that you include your major keywords sprinkled throughout the body of the copy. Although your press release will be read by a human audience, if it is presented online, either through a press service, a blog, or your website, those keywords will also be what draws search engine traffic to you. In order to draw the most targeted search engine traffic, try using words that are specific to your company as well as general in your industry. For instance, in your copy, you might use the words “wholesale soy candles” as well as “soy candles” and “wholesale candles”. Further, be sure that you approach different markets in your press releases. Like, if you want to target restaurants or florists, be sure you include those keywords too.

3-Know Who is Listening: Many people find a press release hard to write because of the multitude of audiences that read a press release. Simply remember that when you create a press release about your products, you are telling a story to interest anyone who picks up the press release. Be factual, but be enthusiastic about what you are writing. For example, there is a difference between the headline “New Soy Candle fragrance brings passion to Valentines Day” and “Soy candle company sells candles”. The only thing these two headlines share in common is using an important keyword in the headline! Do not be afraid to make the copy interesting to your reader and it will not matter who reads your press release.

To successfully write a press release about your products, be cognizant of the mixture of keywords and information. Never write a press release that is strictly fluff or promotion. Use your press releases to optimize your search engine efforts and bring important information to your readers.

The one thing media people want is a great story idea.

A great story gets attention. It can lead to a promotion, award and prestige for the media person. That’s why reporters and producers are always receptive to the next great idea. Which brings us to the importance of the story angle. The Angle The angle – sometimes called the “hook” -is what captures the interest of the media. Here are examples of story angles that the media loves:

1. New Product / Service / Book. The media is always interested in something new. Thus, if you are launching a new (unique) product or service, you have a ready-made angle.

2. Examples: A new fitness book; an accountant who launches a QuickBooks training service in addition to doing taxes. Tie-In With Current Trend. If you can tie into this, you have the opportunity to get publicity.

3. Examples: An interior designer specializing in designing “green” homes (trend: anything good for the environment); a food company that prepares meals-to-go (trend: saving time for busy Moms). Holiday. There are literally thousands of holidays in the U.S. and throughout the world. Every organization should be able to tie into several. Incidentally, reporters are interested in receiving unusual holiday pitches, either a unique way to tie into a well-known holiday, or a tie-in to a lesser-known holiday.

4. Examples: An upscale restaurant that offers a free Christmas dinner in the restaurant for needy families; a contest, sponsored by a professional organizer, offering the winner a free session to organize a home office for “Organize Your Home Office Day”. Useful Advice. The public is always looking for information to help make their lives better or easier.

5. Examples: A new vitamin that helps lower blood pressure; legal ways to pay fewer taxes. Interesting People or Information. People want to know interesting information – both for themselves and to share with others.

6. Examples: The results of a drug study; the newest interior design trends. Controversy. This is a favorite topic of the media. The key is to be a part of the controversy in a positive, not a negative, way.

7. Examples: An attorney commenting on a murder case; an ethics expert giving his opinion on recent corporate scandals. Celebrity. Another favorite topic of the media. National or international celebrity tie-ins are best, but local celebrities work too.

8. Examples: A famous band donating a show’s profits to your charity; a brownie taste-off with the local mayor and Chamber of Commerce president as judges. Fun / Quirky. Anything quirky or fun gets people’s interest.

9. Examples: A dentist who offers spa services; a Hair Restoration Vacation. Contests. People are competitive, and they also like to root for others. Contests always get attention.

10. Examples: A contest to see who can eat the most hot dogs; Cover Model of the Year for a local magazine. Charity / Sponsorships. People want to help others and also want to know who else is helping others.

11. Examples: A benefit held for a local women’s shelter; sponsorship of a community stadium. Awards. People also like to read about other people who have made great achievements in business and life.

12. Examples: A man honored for his extensive community achievements; a woman honored as the Small Business owner of the year by a local Chamber of Commerce. Free Give-aways. It’s human nature to want something for free.

13. Examples: A local restaurant offering a “kids eat for free” night; free give-aways at a local health fair. Surveys. We all want to know interesting information.

Examples: A survey showing the diversity of Boards of Directors; a survey showing how much couples spend on every aspect of their weddings.

 Media Relations   Jobs Of Turning Your Media Release Submission Into GoldIf you are planning to use a media release submission as a way to reach new customers you will want to follow the standard guidelines that are used for any press release submission. These media release submissions are generally used as a public relations tactic to get some good news out about a company. They can also be used to announce the release of a new product or service from your business. This means gold to a budding Internet businessperson.
The media release submission must be written as though it is reporting an event. It should never appear to be an advertisement. Even though the intention is to use the media release submission as a method of reaching a new audience of customers you must write your document as a traditional news story is written, or else it will never be used.

Always write in the third person. Avoid using I in your document at all. It is as though you are a disinterested third party reporting the news of this company that you are not involved with. Imagine yourself as a news reporter. Figure out how you would get this news out about a new product in a news article fashion.

It is best if you can keep the document submission at fewer than five hundred words. Short and to the point is what you are after here. This information is for the press and media, so keep the information accurate and short.

Write a creative headline for the media release submission. Stay away from exclamation points and advertisement-like writing. A battery of exclamation points does not sound unbiased and factual, it sounds like an advertisement.

The first paragraph will contain all of the relevant contact information. It is also necessary to grab your readers in this paragraph. Give them a reason to continue reading the document. It should answer the question who is the media release submission about, what is happening, where is it happening, when is it happening and most important, why is it happening. Make sure that your media release submission answers all of those questions. The entire body of the document will explain the summary that you put in the very first paragraph. This will allow your readers to just simply read the very beginning and choose whether to read on or not. Either way they will have gotten most of the information from the first paragraph.

Keep these tips in mind and your media release submission will be quite successful. Try to plan your media release submission for a slow news day, preferably in the middle of the week. You will not be able to plan which day will be light on news, but pay attention to what is going on and you should be able to get a pretty good handle on it.

The perception is of astronomical pay, glamor, Hickey Freeman suits, Ferragamo shoes. Here are 3 tips to wedge your foot in that door…

1) Work for free. Industry switching usually means taking a cut in pay. To get your foot in the door, be willing to start commission-only or at a very low pay rate. Once you prove yourself valuable there will be plenty of opportunity.

2) Improve your pedigree. While there may be a few people involved with hedge funds who didn’t graduate from a good college – they are either unusually experienced or unusually brilliant. For most of us, pedigree matters. Consider going back for an MBA at a “name school”. Full-time programs are more fashionable than executive programs if you’re making an industry switch. Consider industry-specific training program and designations such as the CAIA, CHA, CPA or CFA.

3) Have friends on the inside. Getting hired off the street into a hedge fund, even for an entry-level job, is pretty hard. Getting hired at a hedge fund where one of your good friends works is not so hard. Keith Ferrazzi’s book “Never Eat Alone” is a new classic. Read it and then read it again.

Remember that the financial market is pretty tough right now. A lot of folks are sitting on the sidelines with their money and hedge funds, like everyone else, are trying to run lean and mean. Top performers with track record, pedigree, and “know how” are prized. Random people who washed out of other industries are in LOW demand. To get your foot in the door you’ll need to go the extra mile. That’s not what everyone wants to hear, but it’s the truth.

But there is a catch.

The key to getting on TV is to provide great information while coming across as an expert, not a salesperson.

So how do you meet your objectives of getting free publicity and making more sales?

Actually, the dilemma isn’t as hard as it seems when you apply these “Five Steps To Successful Television Publicity.”

Step #1: Become a Great Guest

It might seem strange, but the best way to get booked for a television appearance is to demonstrate to a producer that you’re willing to give before you get.

Being a great guest will allow you to get massive media exposure to your target audience. Don’t be so eager for a free commercial that you waste a valuable opportunity for free television publicity.

Step #2: Create Your Message

When you pitch a producer you need to know if the target audience the show attracts is a good match for your topic. Do the research to find out what type of topics the show covers on a regular basis.

Identify if they tackle serious content or do they strictly cover “light and easy” topics. Do they cover “real people” or is the show celebrity guest driven? The best way to determine if a show is the right fit for you is to watch several segments to determine if you would fit within the style of the show.

Step #3: Evaluate Your Marketing

To get your message heard and seen by producers you need the tools and systems that will allow you to stand out from other guest experts seeking to get booked. Make your marketing materials attractive to producers by highlighting your previous television experience and communicating your message clearly to grab their attention.

Step #4: Pitch Show Producers

The media term “hook” suggests that what you are saying literally captures the producers attention long enough to “rope” or “hook” them into wanting more information, tips or advice to help their viewers.

You must answer a fundamental question for the viewer, “Why should I care about what you have to say?” To answer that question effectively and with confidence be sure whatever you pitch to producers and prepare for potential viewers is relevant, entertaining and interesting. You should also be ready with a great pitch the moment the media calls you.

Step #5: Prepare for Your TV Appearance

There is more to television than meets the eye. In fact I’d say only twenty-five percent of what you see on the screen is what’s really going on. If you want to be successful in getting repeat TV publicity you need to provide viewers with information that is easy to understand and deliver your content in clear bulleted points, while remaining conversational.
