Some Culture Pointers for International Business Executives
If you are an international executive, you face many challenges. One of them is simply getting along with people from different cultures. There is a great deal you need to know about each and every culture you visit in order to simply get along. You wouldn’t want to ruin a deal be being inadvertently rude, so be sure to read up on all the cultural pointers possible before embarking on each overseas trip.
Lately, business with Mexico has been booming, so if you are an international executive, you’ll want to know as much as possible about the details of Mexican culture and etiquette. Here are a few pointers:
- Shake hands with men, but bow to women when introduced.
- Mexicans stand very close together when they talk. Don’t offend them by appearing uncomfortable with this.
- Never stand with your hands on your hips. This will indicate you are angry.
- You are expected to be punctual, but your Mexican counterpart may be a half-hour late or more.
