Small Successful Business Follow these 3 Start-up Rules

small successful business 300x216 Small Successful Business Follow these 3 Start up RulesWhen starting a business, you know you are taking a risk, but then again, you are following your dream, so it’s worth it. It is also an endeavor that will prompt everyone you know to give you advice. Take it all with a grain of salt. You must ask yourself if the advice giver has ever been in business himself, of course, and that will determine whether their advice is viable. Better yet, if you find someone who has actually run a successful business, you could make him or her your mentor. Keep in mind, though, that mentoring today’s business men and women requires intimate knowledge of computers and the internet, so be sure your coach or mentor is up to date on modern methods.

That said, here is some start-up advice gleaned from comments made by numerous successful entrepreneurs over the ages:

  • Only do something you are proud of. Don’t compare yourself, your bank account, or your success rate to any other businesses. If you are doing what you love and something you are proud of, that has much more potential and staying power than something successful done just for the money.
  • Fill a need! It is the oldest bit of business advice in the world, but it still holds true. Even if you have a wonderful idea, it won’t sell unless people actually need it. It’s better to look at current needs and come up with a business to serve them than to come up with an idea first.
  • Make sure that the products you sell go for many more times than what you spent to buy them. Each product should have an excellent profit margin. You don’t want to have to sell millions just to break even. That doesn’t mean it has to be expensive though. For instance, most iphone apps only cost 99 cents, but they cost absolutely nothing to distribute, so there is an excellent profit margin for each one.
