Running Small Business Enterprises Often Requires Borrowing

running small business 300x247 Running Small Business Enterprises Often Requires BorrowingSo you have a small business and you aren’t quite making it. You need to expand, you need to recover, you need to make building repairs, or you need to hire a new employee—either way it means you  need to apply for a loan. Don’t be afraid. Small businesses apply for loans every day, and you are no different from the others with successful loan applications. All you need is a little advice from small business owners who have been in the trenches more times than they can count.

Numerous professionals—from business gurus to current small business owners—have compiled the following three tips to help you on your way:

  1. Be honest. There is always a temptation to either exaggerate your situation or downplay your desperate straights. Don’t bother. If you think you will need more money than calculations prove, state it in your proposal. Your intuition as a business owner is worth something. By being honest about your financial troubles, you show a willingness to work to fix the problem.
  2. Along with the loan application, provide a description of your business including its  history and current actions. If it is well known in the community or has built a name for itself, include evidence of that as well.
  3. Maintain flexibility and creativity in achieving startup funds. Some banks may not be willing to loan you all you need, but when you cobble together every different opportunity that comes your way, you may be able to make it work.
