If you Google Small Business, You Could End up with These 3 Bad Pieces of Advice
Those interested in starting a small business often turn straight to Google. They investigate franchises, business loans, commercial real estate, licensing, and the like. Doing so will certainly help you find many tips about small business ownership, but be sure to take them all with a grain of salt. Not all small business advice is good, and some tips (like the following) are downright wrong!
- “Freedom means having your own business.” In reality having your business is nothing but a ball and chain for years. There is always the chance of failure and you live with that risk on a daily basis. Until (and if) you make it big, you better love that business, because you will eat, sleep, and breathe it.
- “Don’t worry! You’ll be great!” Some small business advisors just love the idea of small business and always act in an encouraging manner. Don’t be fooled. You need to have the right experience and skill to thrive in your own business, so be sure to get a second opinion.
- “Visualize your Ideal World.” Many of the more esoteric business success sites out there will tell you to use guided visualization, meditation, and hypnosis to help achieve success. Okay, it probably won’t hurt, but it will never take the place of an education in marketing and top-notch database management skills.
