Every Harvard Business Executive Education Help Students Become Assertive
Harvard students and others in business all want to find that perfect balance between assertiveness and friendliness. After all, business is dependent on relationships, but at the same time it is also dependent on effective negotiations. To help create perfect future executives, top Harvard professors have offered the following tips on how to be assertive:
- Question your real motivations. Make sure that when you are assertive you are doing it for the right reasons.
- Know your boundaries and exercise them. Communicate them clearly and don’t be swayed by what other people consider “appropriate” boundaries.
- Don’t be afraid to say No.
Listen. Allow others to express themselves fully so that you know exactly where they are coming from. There is no sense assuming you know your opponent, when you may not.
