business week executive profile 300x225 Business Week Executive Profile Assistance for Resume WritersBusiness Week’s recent online discussion of the executive profile was long-awaited by resume writers who have been struggling with writing this very sensitive part of their documents for some time! The profile section can be a tricky one for many writers, but Business Week magazine writers broke it down into manageable sections for all those aspiring job applicants out there, so let’s take a look at what to include, what not to include, and some of the pitfalls:

Do include your experience and education, briefly summarized.

Do include your degrees and where you got them IF those are prestigious colleges, but NOT if they are not.

Do include business data on any jobs you have held, internships where you have worked, or projects you have taken on. Be sure to briefly summarize this in the profile section.

Don’t include vague character traits, such as “honest, dependable, creative” etc.

Do include concret proof of your excellent character, such as, “created three successful marketing campaigns in three weeks during internship.”

Do include any accomplishments you have that are not through work, such as volunteer work or work with the media or nonprofits.

Don’t include accomplishments not relevant to work, such as “ran the Boston Marathon.”

With these guidelines to serve you , you should be able to produce a resume with a great profile section. Remember—you want it to be short and sweet, but also to paint the full picture of your experience and abilities.
