5 Rules to Improve Customer Service

Why make the job of service representative harder?

According to Youngandsuccesful.com, here are 5 things to not only remember when dealing with the customer, but to always implement to improve your own experience as well.

1. Treat others as you would wanted to be treated- this ageless rule reminds that putting oneself in someone else’s  shoes often casts a far different light onto the situation, and helps bring some clarity to their problems.

2 .FULLY understand the issue before reciting possible solutions- nothing is more frustrating than being cut-off by a representative without having fully explained the issue. The customer has to waste more time backtracking, or ends up with an incomplete and inaccurate resolution.

3. Go ahead, let it out! Vent. You will undoubtedly encounter those customers who just crawl beneath your skin and get to the very core of your breaking point. Put them on hold or walk in the back room if necessary.  Release some of your frustration and anger behind the scenes and then return with a little less steam whistling out.

4. Smile- sounds simple and obvious right? Smiling, however, is often neglected unconsciously and can send a very negative impression. Even smiling while on the phone has been proven to positively impact the conversation.

5. Go above and beyond, always! Not just meeting, but exceeding customers’ expectations is the key to a lasting impression and the building blocks for loyalty. It is what will differentiate you from the competition and etch the experience into the mind of the customer in a positive light .
